Mylar can be cleaned with most solvents and it can be reused many times for a stencil that will last for years. Our stencils are made from 3 mil or 4 mil mylar with a low power co2 laser. When laser cutting stencils i use a backer board and a dash of repositionable spray adhesive.

Laser cutting mylar stencils.

The stencils are just a piece of thin plastic with a bunch of holes cut in it. Mylar is otherwise know as polyester film. At lci we specialize in laser cut mylar stencils. I use 120um mylar films rotate the stencil by 45deg and run the laser in raster mode.

The finest pitch we can handle is approximately 0 5 mm and we strongly recommend that fine pitch stencils be cut from the 3 mil mylar.
